Flokk would like to thank Deep Tech Canada for its exceptional report “Deep Tech Opportunity for Alberta”, and asks every Albertan desiring sustainable prosperity for Alberta:
Specifically to Flokk’s pursuit of affordable and practical traceability we draw your attention to “Opportunity 4” in the report, “De-risking Sector-Specific Commercialization Pathways”:
Launch challenge programs where large customers (utilities, hospitals, agri-businesses) issue tech challenges and co-develop solutions with startups. The challenge-based funding program could be modeled after Emissions Reduction Alberta’s technology funding for SMEs.
There is a compelling coincidence of need and opportunity that we propose makes “Opportunity 4” the ideal strategy to realize resolution of critical deficiencies in Canadian livestock animal traceability:
- Deep Tech Canada requires a compelling Alberta challenge that is actionable in scale, addresses urgent need, engages motivated actors, and proves viability of “Opportunity 4”.
- Alberta Beef Producers and Canadian Cattle Association require a strategy to rapidly identify, validate, and commercialize solutions to Canadian livestock animal traceability meeting the needs of ranchers, industry, and regulators.
- The Canadian Food Inspection Agency, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, and Alberta Agriculture and Irrigation urgently require resolution of critical deficiencies in Canadian livestock animal traceability.
- Alberta Technology and Innovation and Alberta Innovates would gain from a compelling example example demonstrating support for rural Albertans leading, and benefiting from, the entirety of opportunities from AI and digitization not just locating data centres.
- The Town of Olds seeks economic development opportunities advancing their strategy of attracting and developing Agriculture related enterprises.
- Olds College of Agriculture & Technology requires a prototype for commercializing research at, and creating opportunity for graduates of, the College
- Results Driven Agriculture Research seeks opportunities to finance application of agriculture innovation.
- FCC / FAC seeks to allocate $75M in early stage capital to best of breed solutions solving critical needs of Canadian agriculture.
An opportunity for Canadian agriculture innovation cannot be made more beneficial to more parties and leaders, more urgently necessary, more easily and rapidly mobilized, and more readily financed, than this.
